Challenge:
How do you craft an IPA that embodies the untamed spirit of Alaska? Bear Tooth Brewing set out to create a line of spruce tip IPAs that capture the raw beauty of the Last Frontier while offering something truly unique to the craft beer market. The challenge was twofold: highlight the Alaskan wilderness in a way that resonates with adventurous drinkers, and introduce the health benefits of Sitka spruce tips - traditionally used in teas - to a wider audience beyond Alaska.

Insight:
Alaska’s wilderness is unmatched, covering 33 million acres of protected land and teeming with wildlife. The Sitka spruce, native to the region, is more than just a tree - it’s a historical lifeline, rich in Vitamin C and steeped in tradition. While spruce tip beers exist, they remain largely confined to Alaska. Bear Tooth Brewing saw an opportunity to change that. By blending the rugged essence of the state with a craft beer that delivers 140% of the daily recommended Vitamin C dose per glass, Bear Tooth offers something both adventurous and functional: a beer as bold as the drinkers it was made for.

Answer:

Bear Tooth Brewing launches a line of six distinct spruce tip IPAs, each a tribute to the Alaskan wilderness. The packaging, messaging, and advertisements reinforce this untamed identity, ensuring the beer wasn’t just another IPA - but a true taste of the wild.

The Bear Tooth Brewing ad campaign embraces a risk-taking lifestyle, positioning its spruce tip IPA as the brew of choice for those who defy convention and thrive in the wild. Centered around the tagline “brewed only for the wildest,” the campaign taps into the spirit of adventure, resilience, and independence that defines life on the edge. The campaign aims to resonate with individuals who seek authenticity, push boundaries, and live life on their own terms. Visually rugged and narratively raw, the campaign encourages consumers to drink not just a beer, but a mindset.
